The Global Parliamentarians on Habitat (GPH) is an active international group of parliamentarians. The GPH directly participate in various international events which influence the debates on habitat.
In 2012, the GPH are planning on participating in the discussions on sustainability during the "Earth Summit" of the United Nations, also known as Rio +20. The Earth Summit will take place from 20 to 22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
From 1 to 7 September 2012, UN-Habitat will hold the World Urban Forum VI in Naples, Italy. The theme of the Forum is "The Urban Future”. The Global Parliamentarians on Habitat will once again conceive and implement a "round table" discussion. The topic of the round table will be "Cities as engines for sustainable growth".
On 1 October 2012 World Habitat Day will be celebrated. This day is meant to inspire us to think about our communities and cities and the right of everyone to adequate housing. The GPH will take part in the festivities, as they do each year.
In 2012, the Global Parliamentarians on Habitat will celebrate their 25th anniversary. This special occasion merits a very special celebration.
The 8th Global Forum of the Global Parliamentarians on Habitat with elections of the Board of Directors is expected to take place in the first half of 2013.
In order to develop and coordinate these activities, Board meetings will be held. The regional councils of the GPH will also hold their own board meetings and events.
To learn more about the regional events, please contact the regional presidents directly.
