Bundestag celebrates 65 years of the Basic Law
The German Bundestag is celebrating the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany. To mark the 65th anniversary of the Basic Law’s entry into force on 23 May 1949, the 47-year-old writer Navid Kermani will address the plenary as a guest speaker, discussing the relationship between the constitution and society. The President of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, will open the sitting with introductory remarks. Mr Kermani’s speech will be followed by contributions from the leaders of the parliamentary groups of the CDU/CSU, SPD, The Left Party and Alliance 90/The Greens.
