Defence Committee
Its deliberations often touch on highly controversial issues, which is why the Defence Committee meets behind closed doors. After all, what is at stake is the security of our country, our allies and, not least, the Bundeswehr soldiers who find themselves deployed abroad. Germany’s role in international security policy and the Bundeswehr’s mission have changed, particularly in view of the threat from global terrorism. One essential function performed by the Defence Committee is the democratic scrutiny of the armed forces. In this connection, it plays an important part in the adoption of the defence budget, and the procurement of armaments and materiel for the Bundeswehr.
