The Mediation Committee

According to Article 77 of the Basic Law, the Mediation Committee is an organ situated between the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. Its function is to seek compromise solutions in the event of legislative conflicts between the Bundestag and the Bundesrat, where requested to do so by either of these two constitutional organs.

In the Mediation Committee too each Land has one vote, the Bundestag has the same number of elected members; as a result of the restoration of German unity the Mediation Committee thus now comprises 32 members. Its procedure is governed by the "Joint Rules of Procedure of the Bundestag and the Bundesrat for the Committee set up pursuant to Article 77 of the Basic Law (Mediation Committee)".
