Europe’s special role
The Committee on the Affairs of the European Union ensures that the Bundestag is able to contribute to decisions taken in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg. As a recognised partner of the Federal Government, it helps to formulate and implement German policy towards the European Union. It is responsible for fundamental issues relating to European integration as well as cooperation with the European Parliament and the national parliaments of the Member States. The Committee is able to engage in direct dialogue with the European Parliament because it is composed of MEPs as well as Members of the German Bundestag, something that makes it unique among the Bundestag’s permanent committees.Quelle:
