From the main entrance on the west
side you can see the light and airy design of the Plenary Chamber.
The Bundestag Eagle, known irreverently as the "Fat Hen", dominates
the chamber. Below it are the podium of the Chamber Presiding
Committee and the deputies' rostrum. To the left of the President
sit the members of the government, and to the right the
representatives of the Bundesrat (the German upper house of
parliament). The 1200 m² Plenary Chamber holds 700 seats, more
than are required for the 603 members of the German Bundestag.
