Members' staff

Members of the Bundestag cannot perform all of their official duties alone. For this reason a monthly staffing allowance of €13,660 (gross) is available to each Member. The Members themselves do not receive this money, which is paid direct to their appointed staff by the Bundestag administration. Members’ spouses, relatives or in-laws who work for them cannot be paid from this allowance. Their salaries must be paid out of the Member’s own pocket.
