With her exhibition in the Art Room of the German Bundestag, the Leipzig-based photographer Ricarda Roggan takes stock of her career, presenting examples from several of the cycles she has created. Ricarda Roggan’s photographic works oscillate between the depiction of surreal ready-mades and seemingly sober, objective serial documentations of quotidian reality. Historicality and the present intertwine in her work in a way that is almost symbolic of the German Bundestag, with its buildings standing on a historic site that straddles the great bend in the River Spree. By combining these dimensions, she achieves a unique, restrained ‘re-visioning’ of events since the year of destiny Germany lived through in 1989.
