The Conference’s primary aim will be to foster exchange and links between the European parliaments in the field of sustainable-development policy. The Conference will focus on taking stock of and examining the prospects of national and European sustainable-development policies.
The plenary discussion on the topic of “examples of good practice regarding innovative policy instruments and methods” will be opened by Dr Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag. It will be followed by workshops on “sustainable production and consumption patterns”, “demography and infrastructure”, “sustainable finance policy” and “climate policy and sustainable transport”.
The Conference will conclude on 23 November 2007 with a plenary discussion taking stock of the workshops.
The conference languages will be German, English and French. Simultaneous interpreting will be provided.
The German Bundestag’s Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development believes that parliaments must have a say in this important cross-sectoral policy field. By linking our work at European level, we hope to strengthen the influence of parliaments in the formulation and scrutiny of national strategies on sustainable development.
