MEMBERS OF THE GERMAN
BUNDESTAG
Members remuneration and expense allowance
Adequate working conditions
As a matter of principle, all elected Members have to be capable of performing their multifaceted tasks as effectively as possible.
To help them do this, parliamentarians receive fully taxable financial remuneration. According to a ruling delivered by the Federal Constitutional Court, the level of this remuneration has to be set by the Members themselves.
In addition to this, Members receive various compensatory allowances in the form of monetary benefits and benefits in kind. These allowances must be used to cover all mandate-related expenditure – from running a constituency office to renting living accommodation in Berlin and purchasing office supplies.
