Strictly confidential
Given the extreme delicacy of the Defence Committee’s deliberations, it always meets behind closed doors. After all, the security of the country, its relations with its allies and, not least, the safety of Bundeswehr personnel on active service are all at stake. Germany’s role in international security policy and expectations of the Bundeswehr has changed, especially against the background of global terrorism. The Committee is also concerned with the parliamentary oversight of the German armed forces. For instance, it must give its approval to the defence budget and major procurement projects.
